Report: Tyrunn Walker to go on IR after surgery on broken fibula

When the Detroit Lions lost All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh in free agency last spring, Tyrunn Walker was one of the players the team picked up to help fill the void. Walker turned out to be one of Detroit's pleasant surprises, but his first season with the Lions has come to a premature end.

Walker will undergo season-ending surgery after breaking his fibula against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Lions plan to put him on injured reserve.

The Lions signed Walker, formerly of the New Orleans Saints, in free agency. The fourth-year defensive tackle was a reserve in New Orleans, but he started the first four games of this season in Detroit. He recorded nine tackles (two for losses) before suffering the injury in Week 4.

Walker only signed a one-year deal worth $1.75 million to come to Detroit, so he could be a free agent by the time he's fully healthy. The Lions may want to give the agile, 305-pounder another chance when he's ready to play again.
