A Twentynine Palms couple has been arrested on multiple charges after a 4-month-old boy with fractures on his body was found to be suffering from “extreme malnutrition,” the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Thursday.

Alec Bailey, 20, and Autumn Evers, 24, were taken into custody Tuesday, about a month after a baby in their care was hospitalized when the child was reported to be “unresponsive” in the 6300 block of Smoketree Avenue, according to a sheriff’s news release.

Authorities responded to a medical aid call at the home on July 20, and the child was taken to Naval Hospital in Twentynine Palms.

He was then transferred to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital, where forensics pediatricians evaluated the infant and found he suffered from multiple fractures and extreme malnutrition, the release stated.

Bailey and Evers were arrested on suspicion of willful cruelty to a child and failure to provide, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

They were both booked at the Morongo Valley Jail.

The child’s condition was not immediately released, but he is in the care of Children and Family Services, according to the release.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Frank Hardin or Sgt. Dana Foster, both with the department’s Crimes Against Children unit, at 909-387-3615.
