Mom charged with murder after son's body found in closet of Echo Park home
A mother has been charged with murder after officials said her son's body was found in a closet in their Echo Park home.

Veronica Aguilar, 39, has been charged with murder, and child abuse resulting in death, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

The district attorney's office said the 11-year-old boy's body was found on Monday after his stepfather, Jose Pinzon, called police.

When officers arrived at the scene, Pinzon said that Aguilar, his wife, told him that her son was dead.

Authorities stated that Pinzon had found the child wrapped in a blanket inside a closet at the home located in the 2100 block of Santa Ynez Street.

The boy, only identified by officials as Yonatan A., died due to neglect and had suffered from severe malnutrition, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors recommended that Aguilar's bail be set at $2 million.

If convicted as charged, the district attorney's office said Aguilar faces a possible maximum sentence of 15 years to life in state prison.
