Around 9 a.m., authorities received a call from a concerned neighbor that they could hear an animal in distress at a nearby home. When officers arrived at the residence where the sounds were coming from, no one was home.
Police headed around to the backyard and heard a dog whining. They soon found a puppy had fallen into the pool, holding onto a wall and unable to get out.
Officers pulled the puppy out of the pool and contacted the homeowners to let them know what happened to their pet.
Authorities want to remind residents to keep fences around pools if you have small children or puppies. They also suggest a pool cover that can support the weight of a dog or child if a fence isn't possible.
"Getting dogs and children used to swimming and knowing where the steps are to get out can help avoid a tragedy," the department said in a Facebook post.
